This has been a good mid-sized neighborhood grocery store for the past 15 years but this year it seems the prices have gone up dramatically and the availability of products has gone 'way down. I can no longer find the items I want on the shelves. Also, the newer cashiers are both unfriendly and unhelpful.
Very disappointed lately. Produce is sold at full price when its at the expiry date and mouldy (which I find out when I get home). Bread also. Mouldy. This has happened far too often over the past few months. Yes, I should check dates but I am FLOORED that they actually sell it at/past expiry and still at full price. Also a few times staff are cleaning the produce areas during store hours -- very off putting and gross - certainly a way to point out that it was very dirty. We go to this store for the deli meats since they are the best but over the past few weeks even that has gone severely down hill. One staff gets our order wrong every time, walks around to the front of the display to confirm which meats to get and still gets it wrong along with wrong weights. Horrible. If it werent for my hubby preferring these deli meats there is no way on this planet that we would go back. And yes, I am actively seeking a new deli counter!!!
Very disappointed lately.
Very Good. One thing that would make it excellent is if they said please when they asked for your money. Something else is that the deli sometimes won't cut meat if it is close to closing time. I expect them to be able to serve me 10 or 15 minutes prior to closing...
Ive been going to Andys for about 15 years. Its right on the way to the dog park by the Zoo, and I started stopping in for a few groceries. Now I would make a special trip just for the cheese bread and other buns. I stopped there today and was yet again so impressed by the quality and variety of the plants in the greenhouse that is outside the Store every Spring. Andys has one of the best in-store bakery and deli and the staff is consistently helpful and friendly. I love this store! Thank you Andy, your store is a delight and unique among the other chain grocery stores.
The issue I have is with the cashiers who stand there and look the other way while seniors struggle to lift their bags of groceries into their shopping carts. It looks like the cashiers have been told not to help. It's a bit shocking actually, so, a senior myself, I volunteered to help the lady with the cane in front of me. Not exactly a friendly place, anymore. It used to be but that was years ago.
Hi, Great store, great staff. Have been to a lot of stores and this one rates amongst the best of the best. The staff and owners here are so very friendly, dedicated and helpful.
Excellent! Friendly! Just the best neighbourhood market going!
I quite like Andy's; the size of the store is nice, it is clean and the deli counter and bakery are wonderful. I find their prices a bit high compared to other stores and their tofu products are often expired (a common issue in grocery stores) but they also carry some nice local(ish) food items and the kosher section is interesting to explore.
in response to: A very nice store however , because ...
I totally agree on the meat cutting point. I too had the exact same experience where my steaks were all cut at completely different sizes even though I requested 1.5 inch. They ranged from 1-2.5 inches - it was ridiculous and made barbequing very interesting. I do think though since this experience and your post that the staff in the meat department has changed over. I will consider re-trying it again.
I will never buy a CHICKEN any where else.
The KOSHER chickens are plump, fresh (once thawed) and need no fancy add-ons, just pure, plain delicious clean chicken taste.
This store should do customer deliveries to seniors - my mom has shopped there for over 50 years. Now she is less able to get around and is fairly housebound in the winter. I have asked and was told they only deliver to Cantebury Court. I would like to see more service from a "friendly local store"! I live 5 hours away and have to stock up my mom on weekend trips, and she freezes her milk to get by. She is a very loyal shopper there, and I was disappointed by my request to have deliverys made.
A very nice store however, because they have a captive audience, their prices are high and, where once their meat department was second to none, today it is resting on its former glories. I recently bought EXTRA LEAN hamburger and, when I compared it to the LEAN HAMBURGER next to it, noticed that the EXTRA LEAN appeared to have more fat in it. I inquired from the 'meat staff' and was told it was because the LEAN was processed twice! Whatever that meant! I took their word, bought the EXTRA LEAN at over twice the cost and subsequently found nothing but FAT floating in my spaghetti sauce, something that never happens when I purchase EXTRA LEAN at Superstore or Costco! I also had to return steaks I had purchased as they were cut uneven, one cut being thin, another thicker and yet another super thick and, they were all in one package. So, enjoy the store, watch their prices and buy your meat elsewhere!
We have looked all over Edmonton for fresh veal. Any place that has veal seems limited to cutlets and scaloppini. Andy's has chops and shanks on display and when we asked the butcher for a roast he cut it immediately to our specifications. The selection was fantastic and the service was great. Couldn't ask for much more.
Beautiful store. Well stocked. Thank you for carrying such nice kosher products.
Darren, the rest of the staff in the meat department are great. The store-cut meat is always top-notch. Very clean store in general with friendly staff. While the selection is not as good as Safeway, I prefer Andy's by a mile. I have been shopping at this store for over 10 years,
Great staff and store! I go out of my way, past the Safeway which is closer to me, to go to this IGA.
